Bio

Maral Mirshahi joined CISAC in August 2015, as Research Assistant to Scott Sagan. Maral earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in international relations from the University of Oslo and the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, respectively. She wrote her master's thesis on nuclear energy and weapons rhetoric in the Islamic Republic of Iran. She has also conducted research on just war doctrine in her recent position at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), including co-authoring an article, "The Struggle to Ban Killer Robots," in The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists. She has interned with the United Nations Development Programme and the Norwegian Embassy in Nepal and is fluent in Norwegian, English and Farsi. She has traveled to over 40 countries, and lived in Iran, Pakistan, Norway and Nepal.
