Beyond bits & atoms: Student project expo

The students from "Beyond Bits and Atoms" (EDUC 236X / CS402) will be presenting their incredible final projects to the Stanford community. Food will be served! The expo will take place in the CERAS lobby.

Students will be showing several different technology-enhanced learning environments and toolkits, in fields such as physics, music, storytelling skills, engineering, conflict resolution, math, and more. Below is a summary of the projects.

Description of student projects:

Chip Tunes, by Aaron Broder

Chip Tunes is a tangible interface for learning music composition & music theory, with a focus on helping children learn constructive emotional expression.

Plotting by Hand, by Katie Cheng

With a Kinect depth sensor, you can draw digital plots with your hands! Visualize the dimensions of your body's movements across space and time, bridging the gap between the physical world and the abstract Cartesian coordinate system.

Curativity, by Lisa Goochee, Corinne Colgan, & Anastassia Radeva

Curativity is a project-based learning toolkit that develops storytelling skills. Students become curators, designers, and builders of an interactive museum exhibition model using tangible materials and graphical interface components.

Magic Worlds, by Camila Pereira & Nott Varis

Magic worlds is an arts and crafts platform, with implicit circuitry concepts.

Stacking Emotion Dolls, by Sarah Sterman, Elaine Zhou, & Nhien Tran

Kids learn to process their emotions and situational conflict through embodied learning. We hope that they learn people are like onions; you have to uncover them one layer at a time.

AirScope, by Marc Campasano

Explore the air around you using your own "magnifying glass", internet weather data, and "control panel."

Exodus, by Monica Chan & Edric Kyauk

Exodus teaches about the history of a minority group, Burmese-Americans, by combining a board game and software to recreate "historical events" and teach the players about decision-making during political turmoil during the 1960s to 2000s.

Melody Maker, by Jennifer Lu & Gabe Hernandez

Learn how to create melodies and begin to understand interval relationships and basic transposition through a fun interactive musical table.

Tangible Tales, by Jessie Hopkins & Omair Hyder

Create your own stories and learn about narrative structure using a tangible interface.

Graph Learner is an iPad app to help 8th graders with graphs through an embodied learning experience.

FeelsTrack, by Devika Patel & Joshua Ling

FeelsTrack is a tangible interface to help middle schoolers on the autism spectrum in exploring, navigating and learning about their emotions by creating soundtracks to their favorite video scenes.
