Standard Operating Procedures
A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is a set of written instructions that describes in detail how to perform a laboratory process or experiment safely and effectively. It can cover the specific and general uses of a chemical or class of chemicals, use of equipment and machinery, and safety processes performed on campus. SOPs are a requirement of the Chemical Hygiene Plan, which also outlines PI and lab responsibilities related to SOPs. For more information and guidance on creating an SOP for your operation, please refer to the Chemical Hygiene Plan.
This collection of SOPs is the product of a community effort and we invite you to contribute. You can create your own SOP from scratch by clicking the “Create New SOP” button or you can build on an existing SOP by clicking the “Copy SOP” button. The templates will provide step by step instructions for filling out all the fields. When you’re finished, you can either save your work as a draft to come back to it later on your My EH&S page, or submit it for EH&S review. If it is approved, it will appear in our collection so that other users can reference it for their work.
