About

Bernes specializes in 20th-century poetry and poetics, with additional research interests in Marxist aesthetic theory, labor studies, conceptual and postconceptual art, and new media. His current book project, The Work of Art in the Age of Deindustrialization, offers a novel account of the relationship between postindustrial capitalism and postmodern cultural expression, arguing that postmodernism must be understood, in part, as a response to the changing character of work. Other research projects concern the relationship between the logistics industry and information aesthetics, and the role of “the program” in modernism and after.
