Col-Lab with Jesse Harris: Designing Group Experiences to Build Smarter Teams

May 15, 2015 -
2:00pm to 4:00pm

Whether you’re a teacher, a student, a professional, or all of the above, chances are that you have worked in teams that have worked well … and others that may have left you never wanting to work in a group again. What makes teamwork an enjoyable and productive experience for students and teachers? This workshop will look at the phases of small group development, why some teams are more successful than others, and how to engineer your teams for maximum success. Some of the topics we’ll explore together include:
• How do I find compatible teammates?
• How can I head off unnecessary conflict within my group?
• Is it possible to have fun and be productive with the people I work with?
• How do I have difficult conversations with my fellow teammates?

This workshop is a 2-hour two-part lab intensive focused on a specific skill set that is useful inside and outside of the classroom.  We'll use design thinking, roleplaying, brainstorming, Post-Its, and other creative tools to explore frameworks and useful approaches for team formation, setting goals and expectations, managing conflict, and evaluating team performance.

Light refreshments will be served.
