This lunch will begin with a description of a project Dr. Dirzo works on in collaboration with the Redwood Environmental Academy and Leadership (REAL) program. REAL focuses on teaching high school students academic and leadership skills through hands on service projects related to the environment. This Community Engaged Learning program connects Stanford students with opportunities to learn by doing ecology education with local high school students at places like Jasper Ridge and Hidden Villa in order to participate in projects that help the community and the environment.
The majority of this hour will be used to engage in a dialogue with Dr. Dirzo and with each other about how this work is carried out, from processes, logistics, high impact practices and outcomes. Please come and share in this conversation.
Open to faculty, instructors, and graduate students teaching classes, or students interested in learning more about community engaged learning.
