The Office for Military-Affiliated Communities (OMAC) focuses on the administration and management of VA financial benefits, coordinates and supports educational opportunities for military-affiliated communities, and conducts outreach to faculty regarding engagement and support for faculty grants or other funding specifically identified for military and veteran communities.
Currently, Stanford has nearly 100 student veterans receiving benefits. OMAC provides centralized support for a growing population. The office works with the Registrar’s Office, the Office of Financial Aid, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
The office provides the following programs and support services:
- Student support, connection to resources, and programming: facilitates mentoring and learning opportunities between different age cohorts within the military-affiliated community, as well as encourages engagement with the wider Stanford community.
- Benefit support: helps students navigate and understand the process of applying for benefits to pay for their Stanford education.
- Faculty engagement: coordinates academic opportunities for veterans, connecting them with grant funding, research opportunities and opportunities to work with faculty.
- Coordination of existing initiatives: collaborates with existing programs, such as the Haas Center’s Military Service as Public Service program; the Career Development Center’s alumni mentorship program; and Summer Session’s Stanford 2 to 4: A Veteran’s Accelerator.
