Today Stanford filed an amicus brief in the Author's Guild v. HathiTrust litigation. Stanford submits that preservation of works through digitization is a fair use under section 107 of the Copyright Act. Digital technology enables the faithful reproduction and preservation of library collections to ensure that works are protected against catastrophe and decay over time, so that information is available for future generations of scholars.
