Projects

  • Mapping Pathways in Higher Education, Stanford University

The aim of this project is to develop a set of tools for understanding the unfolding of various types of educational trajectories, their social conditions and their consequences on peoples’ lives. Previous research has mapped the pathways to higher education – the suggested approach hope to produce maps of the pathways within higher education. Three sets of questions are addressed:
    1. How do academic trajectories typically unfold? Are there particularities confined to certain fields of study? How have they changed over time?
    2. What are the relationships between students’ social origins and their academic trajectories?
    3. Which disciplines tend to be combined in individual trajectories? Are there modal patterns of interdisciplinarity and if so, how do these vary across student populations and over time?
