How do I request a transcript?

Current students request a transcript via Axess, by mail, email (etranscripts@lists.stanford.edu), or in person at the Student Services Center located at Tresidder Memorial Union, 2nd floor. We are unable to accept telephone, or rush requests. If you wish to place your request via email (etranscripts@lists.stanford.edu) you must attach a scanned copy of your signed transcript request form. If you have been registered within the past five academic years, you should request transcripts through Axess.

You will need a SUNetID and password; if you do not know your SUNetID or password please contact ITS. Alumni not registered for more than five years should see the Alumni Transcript page.

Summer Session non-matriculated students must fill out the Summer Session Transcript Request Form (pdf). More information can be found at the Transcripts page.

How do I request my electronic transcript to be sent to AMCAS or LSAC?

Current Students and those alumni who enrolled in the past 5 years can request their electronic transcript be sent directly to AMCAS, or LSAC. These requests can be made via Axess.  See the How do I request an eTranscript be sent to AMCAS or LSAC webpage for further instructions

I am using Windows 8 and the most current version of Adobe Reader, but am unable to open the PDF with either Chrome or Safari?

When using Chrome you may receive this error message when attempting to open a PDF document.

"Failed to load PDF document."

Here are instructions on how to change the PDF viewer back to Adobe Reader/ Adobe Acrobat in Google Chrome.

  1. In the Chrome address bar, type chrome://plugins

  2. Disable Chrome PDF Viewer

  3. Enable the Adobe Acrobat/ Adobe Reader plugin

Or you may use IE or Firefox.

How much does a transcript cost and how long will it take?

Transcripts from Stanford University are free. Axess requests for paper transcripts are mailed within three business days but can take an additional 5-7 business days to arrive at the destination with in the U.S. or 15-20 business days for international delivery. If you need your transcript immediately, we suggest that you request an official electronic transcript.

Can I request that my transcript be expedited?

Electronic transcript requests made through Axess are sent electronically every 15 minutes. Students are encouraged to select the Electronic Delivery Option in Axess for expedited delivery.

Emailed transcript requests for electronic transcripts may take up to 48 hours to process.

Unfortunately, we are unable to facilitate rush orders of the paper transcript. However, students may purchase Federal Express materials and a prepaid envelope and drop these materials off at the Student Services Center, Tresidder Memorial Union, 2nd floor, and they will send out the transcript(s) in the materials provided. Students are encouraged to record the tracking number for future reference.

Can I pick up my official transcript?

Official Transcript: Same-day Pick-up Option now available

Students who wish to pick up their official transcript in person can now request the transcript at the Student Services Center located at Tresidder Memorial Union, 2nd floor, and pick up the transcript in the same visit. Use the transcript-order computer (near the ID office) at the Student Services Center to order via Axess and bring the transcript request number to a specialist for pick-up.

Will my transcript indicate G.P.A or class standing?

The GPA is not printed on the official transcript and is not released outside the University. The GPA can be viewed on the unofficial transcript in Axess. Stanford does not calculate class standing. Students or Alumni registered within the past five years can request a unofficial transcript through Axess.

I was at Stanford as a non-registered Student: can I receive a transcript?

If you attended a departmental seminar, certificate program, or conference, contact the department for any records requests. Search for the department on the Index of Stanford web sites page.

Transcript Special Processing: how to communicate instructions.

Specific requests are required for any of the following:

When you order your transcripts through Axess, select Hold for Special Instructions, and write down the request number. For special packaging requests, put your instructions, including the transcript request number, in a Student Services Center Help Ticket. Mail, or deliver any applicable forms along with your request number to the Student Services Center located at Tresidder Memorial Union, 2nd floor.

I have a hold on my record: can I receive my transcript?

Requests from current or former students with unmet obligations to the University (e.g., holds) cannot be honored. To resolve financial holds, contact Student Financial Activities.

I am a parent and need to request a transcript:  can I do this?

Parents may request transcripts for their student only if the student is under age 18.  When a student turns 18, access to his or her educational records becomes legally exclusive to the student.
