Robert Chun

Robert Chun

Robert Chun, '16, is the chair of Stanford in Government. An economics major, his course of study focuses on policy analysis, national security, and international development​. Chun​ has been a member of SIG since his freshmen year and​ is​ now​ ​a sitting​ member of the National Advisory Board of the Haas Center for Public Service​. In his spare time, he enjoys reading and sharing the best of today's political journalism.​ Outside of Stanford, Chun has worked at the Senate Finance Committee, TASER International, and the White House Office of Management and Budget.

 

Varun Gupta

Varun Gupta

Varun Gupta, ’16, is a senior studying Mathematical and Computational Science. As a CISAC Honors student, he hopes to write (intelligently) about how transnational cooperation on infrastructure affects the security relationship between the involved actors. His policy interests include topics like improved fiscal and market designs and policy, the U.S. relationships with India, China, and Russia, equality in labor forces, and the relevance of technology to 21st century geopolitics. He also likes playing basketball and lifting heavy objects.

 

Hannah Meropol

Hannah Meropol

Hannah Meropol is the Vice Chair of Strategic Planning.  She is a senior studying political science, and is currently writing an honors thesis about how Moroccan women use Facebook to participate in Morocco's public sphere.  Hannah also serves as President of Stanford's Women's Coalition, and likes to spend her free time running, hiking, and traveling. Outside of school, Hannah has worked at the U.S. State Department, the Brookings Doha Center, and at Stanford's FSI.

Anna Von Wendorff

Anna von Wendorff

Anna von Wendorff, '18, is vice chair of Communications and was previously a member of the Public Policy Forum (PPF) committee. She coaches a youth soccer team in Palo Alto, works at the Stanford GSB, and spent the summer backpacking in Asia and teaching at a school in Southern India. Previously, she's worked at the State Congress in Hessen, Germany, and at City Hall in San Francisco with a SIG Fellowship.

Emma Leeds Armstrong

Emma Leeds Armstrong

Emma Leeds Armstrong, '18, is the vice chair of fellowships and stipends. She plans to major in Political Science and Classics. In addition to her work in SIG, she works at a political startup off campus, edits an Undergraduate Classics Journal, and bakes challah with Challah for Hunger. This summer Emma worked as a research assistant to Stanford Political Science Professor Rob Reich. In the past, she worked on numerous political campaigns.

 

Anna Blue

Anna Blue

Anna Blue, ’16, is the Vice-Chair of Programming and has served as director of Communications as well as the inaugural director of the Public Policy Forum. She is an international relations major with a minor in modern languages and absolutely loves traveling as a result. Anna spent this summer working at the UN in Geneva, enjoying the Alps and eating too much Swiss cheese and chocolate. She has previously worked at the U.S. Department of State, a Madrid-based NGO and at EMILY’s List in Washington, D.C. In her free time, she loves tour guiding, scuba diving, and playing beach volleyball. Anna can't believe she is graduating this year and can't wait for all that is in store!

Joanne Jang

Joanne Jang, ’17, is a co-director of Technology, having served as director of International Fellowships last year. She is majoring in mathematical & computational science and simultaneously pursuing a master’s degree in computer science. She has previously interned for Disney and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory; at Stanford, Joanne teaches section for the CS 106 (introductory CS) series and serves as People Team Lead for Girls Teaching Girls To Code, an organization that introduces Bay Area high school girls to computer science. Her current caffeine tolerance level is 3 espresso shots.

 

Hadley Reid

Hadley Reid

Hadley Reid, '16, joined the SIG fellowships team as a freshman and never left. After serving as Vice Chair of fellowships in 2015, she is excited to come back to SIG this year in an advisory role to the fellowships program. A human biology major with a concentration in global health policy, Hadley is pursuing an honors thesis through the program on Democracy, Development and the Rule of Law on competition in the Indian pharmaceutical market and its effect on health care delivery. Ultimately, she plans to pursue her MD and combine her interests in both the clinical and policy sides of health care delivery. Hadley is also a radio producer for the Stanford Storytelling project, a fellow with the Stanford India Health Policy Initiate, and a budding foodie.

 

Megan Potoski

Megan Potoski

Megan Potoski, ’16, is the Director of Social Media. She is pursuing a double major in Computer Science and Economics and is passionate about leveraging technology to achieve scalable impact. She spent the last two summers interning as a software engineer at Facebook and a product manager at Google. On campus, she is also the Diversity and Outreach Lead for Girls Teaching Girls to Code, and chairs the Distinguished Speaker Series and CEO Dinners for the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society.

 

Harry Elliott

Harry Elliott

Harry Elliott, ’18, is a co-director of Technology, having worked in Operations last year. He is a double major in Economics and Computer Science, a varsity debater, and a sub-editor at the Stanford Review. A Brit by birth, Harry hopes to understand imperial units by the end of his Stanford career.

 

Riya Mehta

Riya Mehta

Riya Mehta, '18, is the director of the Public Policy Forum. She served on the committee her freshman year and is very excited to come back to it this year. She plans to major in Earth Systems with a concentration in Sustainable Food and Agriculture. She also serves on the ASSU Committee on Sustainability. This summer, Riya lived and studied at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, where she became certified as a yoga teacher. She loves to begin her mornings with an outdoor yoga practice, and she teaches classes on campus.

 

Albert Gianatan

Albert Gianatan

Albert Gianatan, '18, is the co-director of alumni outreach and has served as a strategic planning committee member last year. He is an economics and public policy major, abroad fall 2015 at Stanford in Berlin. This summer, he worked as an internet marketing intern at One Kings Lane, and last school year as a research assistant for the Stanford Mobile Innovation Group. On campus, he is also a board member for Stanford Marketing and on the operations team for Cardinal Ventures. Outside of school, Albert also leads Heliophon, a nonprofit intercultural magazine, and has served as national publications director for the U.S. grassroots arm of UNESCO.

Elizabeth Bernal

Elizabeth Bernal, ’16 is the Director of Marketing. She is a major in Political Science with a focus on International Relations and Comparative Politics. This past spring and summer, she interned at the Office of United States Senator Dianne Feinstein in D.C. through the Stanford in Washington Program, for which she serves as a Peer Advisor this year. In addition to her policy interests, she is a self-proclaimed theater geek and has performed in productions at Stanford.

Laura Zhang

Laura Zhang

Laura Zhang, ‘18, is the Director of International Fellowships of which she served as a committee member last year. She is a sophomore majoring in Economics and Mathematical and Computational Science and is taking Arabic classes on the side. At Stanford, she is also involved with the Stanford Economics Association, the Undergraduate Research Journal, and ASES and spent this summer as a consultant with Accenture in San Francisco. She is interested in all forms of economic policy and specifically international development. In the past, she has researched women's empowerment in the Middle East, lived in Oman on a State Department Scholarship, and traveled to Moscow with the Stanford US Russia Forum to study innovation policy.

Alexis Kallen, ’18, has a huge passion for community service and fighting apathy amongst college students for community issues. She is a Political Science major with concentrations in Law and International Relations. Alexis spent last summer working on the Hill in Washington D.C. as a SIG Summer Fellow, and can’t wait to revamp SIG’s community service this year.

 

Jonah Bolotin

Jonah Bolotin

Jonah Bolotin, ’18, is the Co-Director of State, County, and Local Fellowships. He is planning to major in Economics and is considering a secondary major in Earth Systems. On campus, Jonah is involved with the Economics Association, Stanford Solar Car, and the Sports Analytics Club. This summer, Jonah worked for a financial services holding company in Boston, Massachusetts, and he is currently working for a FinTech startup with professors from EDHEC, Harvard, and Boston College.

Marin Callaway

Marin Callaway, '18, is the co-director of Alumni Outreach, and served on the Public Policy Forum last year. She is considering majoring in International Relations with a minor in Spanish or Latin American Studies. On campus, Marin also works as an Academic Theme Associate in the Crothers Global Citizenship residential theme and is the Co-Outreach Chair of the Jewish Student Association. She loves to travel, eat good Mexican food, and swim in the ocean.

Josh Petersen

Josh Petersen

Josh Petersen, ’18, is excited to be this year's Stipends Director. As a Symbolic Systems and German Studies major, Josh is interested in modern European politics, history and criticisms of the human rights movement, and the interplay between medieval history, law, and political theory. Last summer, Josh studied some of these topics at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg in Germany. He currently acts as a course assistant at Stanford Law School, and has done policy-relevant research in both psychology and economics of education. In his free-time, Josh acts as a member of the Stanford Shakespeare Company and volunteers at local high schools teaching theatre.

Alex Monahan, ‘17, is a sophomore at Stanford studying Mathematical & Computational Science. He plans to minor in Public Policy, too, and his favorite course at Stanford so far was "ECON140: Intro to Financial Economics" with Professor Shoven. In his free time, he loves watching college sports and going on hikes.

Alec Pallin

Alec Pallin, '17, is entering his second year in the DC/National Fellowships committee as a Co-Director. He is majoring in Political Science and considering a minor in History. Alec is currently working for CREDO on analyzing public schools throughout the United States and is a research assistant for the Stanford Cyber Initiative. Other favorite activities include golf, public service organizations such as Circle K, and being randomly competitive about sporting events.

Kendra Ritterhern

Kendra Ritterhern, '18, is the Co-Director of Community Development. She is a prospective Political Science major with a minor in economics. On campus, Kendra is the Vice President of the Society of International Affairs at Stanford, and she is also organizing a Model United Nations Conference for High Schoolers hosted at Stanford. Kendra spent this summer helping organize and run a camp for kids with special needs, and has previously interned for a judge at a Superior Court. Along with Anna Blue and Zach Sorenson, Kendra is a tour guide on campus.

Sarah Cresto

Sarah Cresto, '16, is the Director of Finance and has previously served on the DC/National Fellowships Committee. She is majoring in International Relations with minors in Economics and Italian. Her focus of studies is military policy and strategy. Outside of Stanford, Sarah has worked in the U.S. Senate and at Booz Allen Hamilton. In her free time, Sarah loves to travel and cook delicious meals.

Zachary Sorenson

Zachary Sorenson

Zachary Sorenson, ’16, has been a member of SIG for three years and currently serves as the designer. He is majoring in computer science and completing a coterminal master's degree in public policy. Zach has interned for political campaigns, technology companies, the White House, and as a SIG fellow at the Sunlight Foundation. Zach works as a campus tour guide and leads freshmen backpacking trips as a SPOT leader.

 

Thu-An Pham

Thu-An Pham

Thu-An Pham, '17, is Co-Director of General Events. An International Relations major, she is pursuing specializations in comparative international governance and economic development/world economy. Her academic interests include international conflict resolution, law, human rights, and nuclear security. Currently studying abroad in Santiago, Chile for fall quarter 2015, she is complementing her I.R. coursework with an internship at the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, working on nuclear disarmament issues with the Division of International and Human Security. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring the outdoors, writing poetry, and reading articles on international affairs.

Tim Hegedus, '17, is a third year member of SIG, and is thrilled to be serving as the director of Diversity and Outreach. He is currently pursuing a major in Political Science, a minor in African & African-American Studies, and a co-terminal M.A. in Sociology. Tim is a proud Delawarean, and has returned in past summers to work with organizations like the ACLU of Delaware and on multiple political campaigns. On campus, Tim serves as the Co-President of the Stanford chapter of the ACLU of Northern California, and spends time volunteering with Community Legal Services of East Palo Alto.

 

Gabbi Fisher

Gabbi Fisher

Gabbi Fisher, ’17, is the co-director of Technology and was previously  on Special Events. She’s a computer science major, and is an undergraduate assistant for the McCoy Center for Ethics and Society. Last summer, Gabbi worked at the Sunlight Foundation on projects related to campaign finance; previously, she conducted research at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society on youths’ perceptions of online privacy. Gabbi is currently interning at the National Security and International Affairs Divison of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, and previously was a Privacy and Civil Liberties Engineering Intern at Palantir Technologies this past summer. On campus, she is the video library producer for She++.

Andrea Villarreal, '18, is the Director of Campus Awareness, and she is an international student from Mexico majoring in Management Science and Engineering. She is co-president of the Mexican Student Association at Stanford, is an associate in FoCUS and is part of several Latin American business student organizations.

Jack Coolbaugh, '17, joined SIG his sophomore year as a committee member on DC/National fellowships and is now co-director of that committee. Jack is an economics major with math and public policy minors. He is studying Comparative Economics at Oxford this fall and is looking forward to returning to the Farm in the winter. Born and raised in South Lake Tahoe, he enjoys golfing in the summer and skiing in the winter.

Ryan Holmdahl

Ryan Holmdahl, '18, is the Director of Programming Strategy and served last year in the Public Policy Forum. On campus, he reviews TV for the Stanford Daily and serves on the Judicial Affairs Panel. He most recently interned at Seattle tech company Panopto, and has previously worked with the Washington State Republican Party and at Microsoft. In his spare time, he plays bass guitar and squash. He plans to declare a major in computer science.

Kimberly Tan, ’17, is the Director of Special Events. She was the​ ​Vi​ce ​C​hair of Stipends and Strategic Planning her sophomore year ​and a committee member on Operations​ her freshman year​. Kimberly ​is an Economics major and a Mathematical and Computational Science minor. On campus, she is also the Financial Officer for Dance Marathon. She was also previously a Stanford in Government fellow, where she worked at Internews in Sarajevo, Bosnia on media transparency and professionalism. ​She loves hiking, attempting to learn to cook, and exploring cities.
