OFFICE DESCRIPTION:
The Secretary of the Air Force for International Affairs (SAF/IA) strengthens US and global security through partnerships in air, space, and cyberspace by integrating security cooperation activities, advancing partner capabilities and interoperability, and developing international Airman. The America-Africa Division of the Regional Affairs Directorate within SAF/IA is responsible for Security Cooperation and Security Assistance programs and policies across 90 countries and territories spread throughout the western hemisphere and Africa. The division is comprised of eight country directors who enable conflict prevention and joint/coalition operational success within their portfolios through air, space and cyberspace domains, building trust and confidence between the US and its partners in order to strengthen US and Global Security.
FELLOWSHIP PROJECTS:
- Assist with preparation and execution of multiple foreign visits
- Build upon existing knowledge of USAF’s political-military relationship and foreign policy with the nations of Latin America and Africa.
- Interface with high-ranking USAF and partner nation officers. These include multiple Colombian visits, LACI (Latin America Cadet Initiative), CONJEFAMER (CSAF’s engagement program with Latin American Air Chiefs) and the African Air Chiefs Symposium.
- Research partner nation issues and emerging trends as necessary
DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES:
- Clearance not required.
- Knowledge of Latin American and/or African politico-military affairs desired, but is not mandatory.
- Spanish language skills strongly desired but not mandatory.
