Applicants to this fellowship must be authorized to work in the U.S. Additionally, you will be added to the county payroll rather than receiving an upfront summer stipend from Stanford in Government.

This is a fellowship friendly to underclassmen applicants.

Office Description:The Employment and Training Branch of Social Services in the Department of Health and Human Services administers an array of education and vocational training program for Marin County residents. These services are provided by the CalWORKs Welfare to Work Program, Workforce Investment Act (WIA) program and the General Assistance Program. The Employment and Training Branch Fellow will work on a variety of policy projects designed to help move clients toward economic self-sufficiency. The fellow may work on researching the impact of a local living wage policy, as well as projects related to the implementation of new legislation, the Workforce Innovation and Opportunities Act. The fellow will also work on projects in partnership with the California workforce Association. The Stanford Fellow will have the opportunity to understand and contribute to policy making at both the local and state level. U.S. work authorization is required for the position (this is a little different than U.S. citizenship required, because the students can still work there if they are green card holders).  Please also note that a $5000 stipend will be paid biweekly via the County.   2. Responsibilities Specific duties will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Research and gather data pertaining to policies and regulations that affect the clients served in the programs.
  • Develop and apply criteria for the evaluation of various projects, locally and on a state level.
  • Participate in local and state planning discussions.
  • Prepare written proposals for special project implementation.
  • Provide assistance to staff and partners, including working with County agencies on program issues, such as homelessness and immigrant populations.
