Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)

Appointments can be made at CAPS by calling 650-723-3785, by accessing the VadenPatient portal through the Vaden website, or by coming to the second floor of the Vaden Health Center from 8:30 am–5 pm Monday through Friday.

  •  If you have not been seen at CAPS before, the first time you call us to make an appointment you will be scheduled for a phone screening appointment with one of our clinicians. The purpose of this 5-10 minute phone call is for us to understand the focus of your concern and how this concern is affecting your daily life. This process will allow us to assess your needs and match you with an appropriate clinician and appointment type.
  • Appointments are made as quickly as possible after the request. You may request a specific therapist on the basis of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or professional training, but it may mean a longer wait until such a therapist becomes available.
  • After your initial appointment you and your therapist will decide what services will be most helpful to you. These services may include individual or group therapy at the Counseling Center, or a referral to your medical insurance's behavioral health plan, and/or other campus and community resources.
  • Your therapist may suggest a consultation with a psychiatrist and would discuss how this could be set up. It is not unusual for students to be referred to a psychiatrist by their therapist. Many common psychological concerns, such as severe anxiety and depression may warrant such a referral.
