Environmental Venture Projects (EVP)

To catalyze transformative environmental and sustainability research around the world, the Stanford Woods Institute has awarded more than $7 million in EVP seed grants to interdisciplinary research teams from all of Stanford’s 34 departments. These innovative projects focus on finding solutions to a wide range of challenges. Since 2004, the Stanford Woods Institute has awarded EVP grants to more than 49 interdisciplinary research teams, leading to developments such as natural resources valuation software, biodegradable building materials, clean drinking water delivery systems in Africa and endangered species protection in California.

Forums, Dialogues and Workshops

Faculty and researchers can help link discoveries to action by attending, organizing and speaking at forums, dialogues and workshops hosted by the Stanford Woods Institute throughout the year.

Through its Uncommon Dialogues and workshops the Stanford Woods Institute brings together leaders from government, NGOs and business with experts from Stanford and other academic institutions to develop practical solutions to pressing environmental challenges. These moderated conversations equip leaders to make informed decisions for a sustainable future while creating a two-way flow of information that brings new perspectives and context to Stanford's environmental research.

Faculty also can share recent findings and engage colleagues from a broad range of disciplines when they attend and serving as guest speakers for the Environmental Forum. These informal, interdisciplinary colloquia inform the Stanford community about a broad range of environmental issues and solutions through presentations and discussion by global experts from within Stanford and other leading academic institutions, government, NGO and business. The forum is open to Stanford faculty, graduates, students, postdocs and staff.
