About

Melissa was born and raised in Washington, DC.  She holds a BA in History from Carleton College and has worked for the Philadelphia Film Society, the People's Production House, and Creative Time in New York. For the past several years she has made media for permanent museum installations around the country while producing and editing In Crystal Skin, an independent film shot in Bogotá, Colombia, that traces the lives of four individuals challenged by a rare inherited skin disorder. 

She is currently directing My Aleppo,  co-written by a young Syrian family in Pretoria as they attempt to preserve memories of their home city as it is decimated by war. Her short films have screened at Hot Docs, SXSW, and Big Sky.
