The SHALA (Stanford Health and Lifestyle Assessment) is an online health risk assessment that takes about 20 minutes to complete. SHALA helps participants identify healthy lifestyle behaviors as well as areas for possible improvement. Upon completion, participants immediately have access to an individualized health report.
Benefits-eligible employees who complete the SHALA can move on to the Wellness Profile and Berries.
New this year: the SHALA is not required by those employees wishing to form or join a Healthy Work Environment (HWE) group. However, HWE participants may still opt to take the SHALA, which is required if they want to proceed to the Wellness Profile.
How often do I need to take the SHALA?
Active participants take the SHALA every year.
Can I take it more than once a year?
Yes. Participants are encouraged to take the SHALA as often as they want to track changes in their behaviors.
Will I receive a financial incentive for completing SHALA?
No. There is no financial incentive for completing the SHALA. However, participants who complete their SHALA will receive discounted HIP fitness classes (two classes per quarter at the $30 rate) and Stanford Recreation group fitness pass (unlimited drop-in classes per quarter at the $60 rate) and free vouchers to select sporting events. Please note: employees must take SHALA prior to registering for HIP or Stanford Recreation classes to receive the discounted rate.
If I want to join a Healthy Work Environment (HWE) group, must I complete the SHALA first?
No. Starting in 2016, you will no longer be required to take the SHALA prior to joining a HWE group. However, if you also wish to proceed to the Wellness Profile, and qualify for the higher incentives that the latter provides, you must complete the SHALA.
