National Academies name Pizzo to policy board

The National Academies has appointed Philip Pizzo, MD, dean of the School of Medicine to chair the Institutes of Medicine’s Health Sciences Policy Board. The announcement was made last week.

The Health Sciences Policy board focuses on ensuring that adequate attention is paid to policy issues related to health care. It studies the structure, funding and coordination of public and private policies and institutional arrangements to better understand how resources, including funds, personnel and facilities, are distributed.

The board also attempts to identify under-supported areas of research as well as areas of study that deserve more attention because of specific national health problems.
