Background of the Spectrum Child Health Program
The Child Health Research Program was established by Dr. Christy Sandborg in 2005 with the mission to increase the quantity and quality of clinical research in child health. The program offers a centralized clinical core with research support personnel, assistance with scientific expertise and advice, and career development services for junior investigators.
Newly named Spectrum Child Health in 2008, the organization continues to provide these services in addition to a formal Pediatric Mentoring Program and several pilot funding programs in preparing early and mid-career faculty for a career in clinical and translational research. These services are available to Stanford faculty and trainees participating in clinical and translational research in children.
Spectrum Child Health Scientific Advisory Committees
The Spectrum Child Health Scientific Review Panels are comprised of members who are experienced investigators and offer scientific oversight, expertise and advice. The panels:
- Determine scientific merit of proposals and make recommendations for allocation of resources
- Review applications for the Pediatric Research Fund, Innovations in Patient Care, and the Child Health Research Institute Fellowships
- Review non-peer reviewed proposals requesting Spectrum Child Health services
- Function as an advisory group to the further development of Spectrum Child Health and the clinical and translational programs for child health researchers at Stanford
