Brief Introduction

The mission of Spectrum, the Stanford Center for Clinical and Translational Research and Education, is to accelerate the translation of scientific breakthroughs into real-world solutions that prevent disease, prolong lives, reduce suffering, and enhance health.

The main programs listed on this page comprise Spectrum efforts as part of the Clinical and Translational Science Award.

Spectrum programs are funded by a Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) from the National Institutes of Health (UL1 TR001085).

Bioethics

Provides consultations and conducts studies addressing ethical issues encountered in clinical and translational research.

Bioethics

Research on medical practices is considered similar to medical research that develops new treatments in that it requires special oversight.

Biostatistics & Study Design

Provides one-on-one consultations and conducts the Study Design Workshop for biostatistics support of clinical and translational research projects.

Career Development & Diversity

Offers mentoring and training opportunities for investigators to advance their careers through improved leadership skills and addresses workforce diversity through workshops.

Child Health

Integrates research and nursing services, pilot grant administration, resource allocation, and mentoring programs for child health investigators.

CTRU

Provides clinical research services to support human subjects studies including nursing, phlebotomy, dietary kitchen, and clinical sample processing and testing.

Clinical Informatics

Provides researchers with secure database hosting, data sharing services, assistance with data analysis tools such as REDCap, access to the STRIDE clinical data warehouse.

Community Engagement

Spectrum’s Community Engagement Program is developing a national model to train future leaders in community health and offers community health scholarships and seed grants to enhance local health via community-academic partnerships.

Enabling Technology Core Resources

Cutting-edge analytic tools and diagnostics to facilitate translational advances, such as high-throughput screening, genomic and expression analysis; and human immune system monitoring.

Innovations & Pilots

Supports the development of new diagnostics, therapeutics and preventatives through education, training, mentoring, and funding of pilot projects.

OTC

Assists investigators with regulations that pertain to clinical and translational research with a team of experienced research nurses, coordinators, study facilitators, and financial analysts.

Research Education & Training

Supports educational opportunities for those interested in pursuing a career in clinical and translational research.


Tracking & Evaluation

Assesses the progress of the various programs and identifies synergistic opportunities through the integration of inter-programmatic efforts.
