Evidence-Based Practice Fellowship (EBPF)
Stanford Health Care (SHC) commitment to professional development
extends beyond traditional classes and trainings. As part of this
commitment, SHC has offered nurses the opportunity to participate in
an Evidence Based Practice Fellowship (EBPF).
The Evidence-Based Practice Fellowship (EBPF), a seven month
structured program, offers nurses the opportunity to address a
clinical practice problem on their unit. Working with trained coaches,
SHC's Evidence-Based Practice Fellows work through a discovery model to:
- Identify a clinical practice challenge, and search and
critically appraise the relevant research and best practice
literature.
- Synthesize the evidence to guide new
practice.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate a small test of
change with the aim of improving patient care quality, safety,
outcomes, or costs.
Past graduates of the Evidence-Based Fellowship Program have
conducted evidence-based practice studies in patient empowerment,
infection control practices, palliative care, patient education, wound
care and intravenous therapy.
At the end of the program, graduates present their findings to peers.
