Vasectomy

Vasectomy is one of the safest and most effective methods of birth control, which involves cutting and closing the vas deferens (the tubes that carry sperm from the testicles).  Each year, approximately 500,000 men in the United States utilize vasectomy for birth control.

One common misconception is that a vasectomy will negatively impact a man’s health.  A vasectomy does not appreciably change the ejaculate volume (<10 percent), affect sexual performance or function, nor cause problems with a man’s overall health.

It does not prevent transmission of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
