The Program

The Arabic Language Program at Stanford University offers courses in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) at four levels, and courses that focus on media, classical, conversational, and regional registers of Arabic.

The program teaches Arabic as a living language to a diverse body of students with a wide range of academic and professional needs.  Therefore, courses offered adopt the communicative approach in learning and the interactive approach in teaching to develop all five language skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing and cultural awareness. Students work with authentic audio, video, and text materials. The program curriculum is designed according to the Standards for Language Learning and the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines.

Current course offerings in Arabic language can be found in Explore Courses under ARABLANG.

For more information on the Arabic language program, please contact the program coordinator Khalid Obeid.

Students interested in Arabic literature courses and additional resources are invited to visit the Stanford Arabic Homepage.
