Forum for Undergraduate Environmental Leadership
The Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment seeks to advance environmental leadership among Stanford undergraduates and co-terminal students by providing a forum in which a select group of students can meet and network with emerging leaders and seasoned professionals in both the private and public sectors. The Forum of Undergraduate Environmental Leadership (FUEL) will allow students to investigate environmental career opportunities, learn more about the advances that environmental leaders are making today at both the state and national levels, and discuss how to improve their own leadership skills.
In 2016, the Stanford Woods Institute will run a one-quarter pilot FUEL program. This pilot program will include a series of dinner talks by invited speakers from the nonprofit, business, and government sectors. The program will culminate with a trip to Sacramento, where students will meet with key state environmental leaders.
FUEL will provide students with an opportunity to gain career advice from leading professionals tackling environmental problems. The program also will provide students with an insight into how these professionals are accomplishing environmental change, including the challenges they confront and how they overcome these challenges.
The program is open to Stanford undergraduates who are in their junior and senior years and to co-terms who are still in UG status (bachelor's degree has not been conferred). DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 18, 2016
Schedule: spring quarter
- 3-4 talks on campus: Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m.
(April 6, 13, 20, 27, subject to change) - Visit to Sacramento: a Thursday evening and Friday of meetings
(May 12-13, subject to change)
If you have further questions about the program, please contact Brian Sharbono, Program Manager, at sharbono@stanford.edu.
Note: As part of the application process, please ask a faculty member who can best speak to your qualifications to submit a short letter of recommendation. The letter should be submitted directly to Roberta Tugendreich, Program Administrator, at robertat@stanford.edu.
The faculty member should state in what capacity they know you and explain why they believe you would be a strong fit for the Forum for Undergraduate Environmental Leadership. The endorsement need not be long; one paragraph is sufficient.
