Today is #GivingTuesday. To celebrate this day, We asked the students in our class to record a short video describing their philanthropic passion. Here's Kerry Wang, Stanford'17, talking about how she gives. Kerry and her team are partnering with Oppia.org to create a platform to incentivize users and revitalize online education. Go Kerry!

NIPS is an important machine learning and computational neuroscience conference held every December. This year it is being held in Montreal, Canada, from 3rd to... 8th December. In 2016, we held the first Black in AI workshop at NIPS with only 6 attendees, and this year we expect almost 500 attendees! A couple of things that have happened as a result of the Black in AI workshop (courtesy of Timnit Gebru):

- Google Brain's decision to start a lab in Accra (Jeff Dean tweeted about how his conversations at the Black in AI dinner helped convince him that this was the right thing to do)
- People who have done (or currently doing) internships, residencies, got into PhD programs, summer schools, received scholarships etc...
- New collaborations between African academic institutions and ones in the US, Europe etc.
- An incredible increase in the percentage of Black students who got accepted into Cornell's PhD program. For the first time, Cornell admitted 8 Black students to the CS PhD program (the admissions chair discussed the impact Black in AI had)

The second Black in AI event will be co-located with NIPS 2018 at the Palais des Congrès de Montréal (Montreal Convention Centre) in Montréal CANADA on December 7th from 1:00pm to 6:00pm. We are working on securing funding for Stanford students to attend the Black in AI Workshop. Please fill this form so we can use the information to gauge interest and financial aid needs! Registration for NIPS opens in a few days so we need to get the info as soon as possible.
