Learn how to borrow, renew, and return library materials, or use our other Research Resources.
Borrow Library Materials
Use the SearchWorks library catalog to find items available at Stanford. Most Stanford GSB Library materials are available to request for pickup. If an item is available in another location and doesn’t have a request button, you will need to go to that library to locate it and check it out. Faculty and staff can submit a Document Delivery request.
Go to My Library Account to see your checkouts and items you have requested for pickup. You can also renew items and pay fines and fees. See Material Loan Periods.
Request Materials for Pickup
Some library materials can be requested for pickup at various libraries on campus.Â
Request Available Materials
Materials at some campus libraries, including the GSB library, are available to be requested for pickup. After locating the item in SearchWorks, use the Request button and pay attention to where you can select the pickup location (image at right). You’ll get an email when the items are ready; it may take a few business days.
Request Checked Out Materials
Checked out materials can be requested (or “recalled”) by other patrons. If an item you have is recalled, you will get an email with a new shortened due date. Please return the item(s) on time to avoid fines.
To recall an item currently checked out to another patron, use the Request button in SearchWorks (image at right). You will get an email when it is ready to pick up.
Tip! Sometimes another campus library has the same item you’re looking for, so check SearchWorks for another copy you can get faster. Or, use Interlibrary Loan and we’ll borrow the item from other libraries outside Stanford.
Return Library Materials
Drop off materials in the book return outside of the Bass Center or one of the other locations on campus.
