Google Art
As part of President and Mrs. Obama’s commitment to open the White House to as many Americans as possible, we have partnered with the Google Art Project and allowed their 360 Street View cameras to capture the rooms that are featured on the public tour. Now anyone, anywhere, can experience the history and art of the White House via their computer.
Preview the Gigapixel View of Washington
As part of the White House’s partnership with the Google Art Project, the painting of George Washington by Gilbert Stuart that hangs in the East Room was photographed in extraordinary detail using super high resolution or "gigapixel" photo capturing technology, which enables you to study details of the brushwork and patina beyond that possible with the naked eye.
Use the tool to the left to see the level of detail the gigapixel camera capture offers, then click through to see the full, more detailed version on Google Art.
