Q&A session with filmmakers Jafar Panahi and Mojtaba Mirtahmasb, October 4, 2016.

Jafar Panahi is an award-winning Iranian director, writer, and producer. His films have been banned by the Iranian government, he has been arrested several times, and sentenced to a 20 year ban on making films, writing scripts, giving interviews, or traveling outside Iran, on penalty of imprisonment. While waiting for a verdict, he co-directed and produced, with Iranian filmmaker Mojtaba Mirtahmasb, This is Not a Film, portraying the deprivations looming in contemporary Iranian cinema.

He continues to make films without authorization and at great personal risk. His other films include: The White Balloon (1995), The Mirror (2000), Offside (2010), and Closed Curtain (2013).

Mojtaba Mirtahmasb is an Iranian filmmaker and a graduate of the Art University of Tehran. He has made nearly 30 films, often collaborating with prominent Iranian directors. His films include: Banner (1996), The First Presence (1999), The River Still Has Fish (2001), Off Beat (2004), Home is in Our Past (co-directed with Hamed Mohammad Taheri, 2005), This is Not a Film (co-directed and co-produced with Jafar Panahi, 2011), and Six Centuries, Six Years (2014).
