Epidermolysis bullosa is a painful disorder that leaves the skin extremely fragile and susceptible to tearing and blistering at the slightest touch. Paul Martinez has been living with epidermolysis bullosa from birth and, at age 32, is considered to be old for patients with his particular variety of E.B. A new treatment, currently undergoing clinical trials at Stanford, holds hope for patients like Paul, but until the safety and efficacy of any treatments are proven, life for countless E.B. patients continues to be very difficult.
