Undergraduate Degree Progress
Students who complete their BS in EE gain a basic understanding of electrical engineering built on a foundation of physical science, mathematics, computing, and technology. Coursework prepares students for careers in government agencies, the corporate sector, or for future study in graduate or professional schools.

The EE master’s degree program provides advanced preparation for professional practice or for teaching at the junior college level. Completion of the program requires 45 units of coursework, and it takes 1.5 to 3 years on average for students to complete the full-time program.
Doctor of Philosophy

The EE PhD degree is designed to prepare students for careers in research and teaching at the university level. It is offered exclusively as a full-time program, consisting of 135 units. The candidacy for the PhD program is 5 years.
Coterminal Program

The coterminal degree program allows Stanford undergraduate students to study for a master's degree while completing their bachelor's degree(s).
Joint Degree Programs
Joint degree programs enable students to pursue two degrees simultaneously. Our newest program, the joint EE MS/MBA degree (managed in conjunction with the Stanford Graduate School of Business (GSB)), is for students who have an interest in technology and leadership and a desire to become managers or entrepreneurs in technologically-inclined businesses. The joint JD/MS degree (managed in conjunction with the Stanford Law School), is for students who wish to prepare themselves for careers that involve both Law and Electrical Engineering.

This program offers qualified engineers and scientists who are employed full-time and interested in pursuing graduate-level courses at Stanford an opportunity to do so on a part-time basis. Students in this program will earn their MS degree after completing 45 units.
