SCALE designs curriculum-embedded performance-based assessments to be used by teachers and students in K-12 schools. SCALE contracts with schools, districts, and states to develop assessment instruments in consultation with key stakeholders and users; establishes and oversees scoring procedures; provides professional development to support teachers and administrators engaged in the work; and conducts research to support the validity and reliability of the assessment system. One of the core principles guiding our assessment work is that a performance assessment system should be designed to be educative for students, teachers, and schools. The assessment development and implementation cycle incorporates evaluation and reflection as a key component of the system with the goal of improving system components to support teaching and learning.
The key elements of the SCALE assessment system are each described in the Assessment System tab. The diagram shown here represents the dynamic and iterative process of assessment development.
