In TWoIaF there was a passage about that area where the shadowbinders train, near Styx, how no other people go there and that the caves are full of deformed dragons and demons. When the shadowbinders have finished training, they have to hide their faces for some reason. Seems like some kind of demonic sorcery type stuff to me.

TWoIaF was also rife with Lovecraftian and Robert E Howard type descriptions of things.
