Bit9 is an application control product that allows departments to monitor and control application execution on systems. Bit9 is licensed for Stanford managed servers and the specialized workstations used to manage those servers (PBH's).
Application control using Bit9 adds an additional layer of protection by using a trust-based policy engine agent to track and control the execution of applications. Only known and trusted applications can run on the system. This protection technique is sometimes called White Listing and works on the idea that only known applications should be allowed to run.
Supported operating systems include:
- Windows Server 2008 and above
- Mac OS X 10.7.4 and above
- Red Hat and Cent OS 6.2-7
Getting started
Units can sign up for the Bit9 service by submitting a HelpSU request.
Application control needs to deployed and implemented carefully to avoid server and application outages. To help facilitate this process, units will be provided with our suggested onboarding process for each system as well as ways to best manage the system using Bit9.
