About Stanford 125

In 2016, Stanford University celebrates the 125th anniversary of its opening on October 1, 1891. Founded by Jane and Leland Stanford in honor of their son Leland Jr., Stanford today is a global leader in teaching, research and discovery.

Events and activities over the coming year will highlight the many ways the university has had a transformative impact in people’s lives and around the world. In fall 2015, the first anniversary symposium, Thinking Big About Learning, showcased Stanford leaders speaking to a full house about their current work in education and research. Visit Events for event videos and information about future symposia.

In spring 2016, the book Stanford 125: A Visual Exploration will be available, featuring images of Stanford today by acclaimed photographer Alex Webb.
