Design

About

The Design Group offers undergraduate and graduate programs in Product Design (jointly with the Department of Art and Art History) and was centrally involved in the founding of Stanford’s d.school: the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design.

The d.school is a hub for innovators at Stanford. Students and faculty in engineering, medicine, business, law, the humanities, sciences, and education utilize design to take on the world’s messy problems together. Human values are at the heart of the d.school’s collaborative approach. The faculty focuses on creating spectacularly transformative learning experiences, and inevitably the innovations follow.

The Architectural Design major seeks to integrate engineering and architecture in ways that blend innovative architectural design with cutting-edge engineering technologies. Combining hands-on architectural design studios with a wide variety of courses, students can choose from a broad mix of elective courses concerning energy conservation, sustainability, building systems and structures, as well as design foundation and fine arts courses.
