1963 Lorenz Eitner joins the faculty of Art and Architecture as Department Chair
He was hired as part of a University program to revitalize the humanities. His charge was to build up the department. He recruited new faculty, developed a new curriculum, and forged a strong relationship between the department and the museum. He was the museum director (on a volunteer basis) until he retired in 1989. He refurbished the museum and was responsible for the acquisition of the collections of 18th- and 19th-century prints and drawings, Rodin casts, Muybridge photographs, and Asian works. (Retired 1989, died 2009)
