Disclaimer Regarding the Use of Animals in Research.
The use of animals in scientific research has been at the core of advancement in medicine and neuroscience over centuries. The Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE) is a secular multidisciplinary university based scientific research center and is not part of or affiliated with any religious or cultural entity or organization that bans the use of human or animal subjects in research.
As the focus of CCARE is compassion, we hold the lives of humans and animals in the highest regard. In regard to animal research, we are committed to advancing research while ensuring that all animals used in research are treated humanely and compassionately.
CCARE is part of Stanford University, Stanford University School of Medicine and the Stanford Institute of Neuro-innovation and Translational Neuroscience. As such, we abide by all Federal, State and Institutional regulations regarding the humane treatment of humans and animals involved in scientific research.

While, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, has made his feelings known regarding the appropriateness of the use of animals in scientific research and those circumstances in which he supports such work, out of deep respect for his compassion towards all sentient beings, none of the funds contributed to CCARE by His Holiness have been used in any type of research on animals.
