Personal bio
I'm an executive coach and an Instructor at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. I write about coaching and professional development at edbatista.com and at HBR.org. I'm a co-author of the HBR Guide to Coaching Employees, and I'm currently writing a book on self-coaching for HBR Press.

At the GSB I provide individual coaching and lead teams in the Arbuckle Leadership Fellows Program, which I helped to launch in 2007, and I'm an Instructor in our Leadership Labs. In Spring 2015 I'm teaching a new course on The Art of Self Coaching, which I designed. Several times each year I facilitate T-groups in Interpersonal Dynamics, the GSB's most popular elective (known to everyone as Touchy Feely), and in Winter 2016 I'll be teaching my own section of the course.

As an executive coach I work primarily with tech CEOs in San Francisco, although I also work with senior leaders in other fields and in other locations via phone or video. My work as a coach began after a 15-year career in management, during which I took two years off to attend the GSB, and I've helped launch three new organizations. I'm married to Amy Wright, and we've lived in San Francisco since 1990. In addition to my MBA from Stanford, I received a BA in History, magna cum laude, from Brown University.
