Graduate chemistry student Christina Cooley devotes her time to research in the field of drug delivery.

At the Wender Lab, she works primarily on the development of molecular transporters, which attach to drugs that cannot enter a cell or do so inefficiently.

Cooley says these transporters not only allow the drug to be delivered—they also possess significant additional properties, like the ability to overcome multidrug resistance in cancer. Her collaborative research on this new technology could apply to the treatment of cardiovascular disease, AIDS, cancer, and other critical disorders.

Although Cooley is passionate about her groundbreaking research, she also hopes to make an impact through teaching. She has been a chemistry teaching assistant since her first year at Stanford and looks forward to inspiring the next generation of scientists.
