The 16th Multidisciplinary Management of Cancers: A Case-based Approach

This conference will present the most current information on multidisciplinary approaches in clinical oncology, and will consist of tumor board cases on breast, CNS, cutaneous malignancies, developmental therapeutics, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, hematological malignancies, lymphoma, supportive oncology & survivorship, and thoracic cancers. The tumor board cases will be presented by faculty, with discussion by a panel of surgical, radiation and medical oncologists from Stanford, UCSF, UC Davis and the practice community.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

1. Develop multidisciplinary treatment strategies based on national clinical practice guidelines in oncology in order to improve quality of care for cancer patients.

2. Counsel patients on pharmacological and psychiatric strategies to manage pain.

3. Discuss relevant clinical trials with cancer patients and refer appropriately.

4. Appropriately refer cancer patients to palliative care.

Statement of Educational Need

Because the standard of care in oncology changes rapidly with new discoveries, there is a need for frequent updates of practical relevance for practicing oncologists. This conference will emphasize standard of care issues for various cancers including diagnostic and therapeutic decision-making and optimal approaches to supportive and palliative care.

The faculty at the Stanford Cancer Institute, UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center, put a premium on optimal multidisciplinary modeling treatment and education of the practicing oncologist to ensure they are up to date. The American Society for Clinical Oncology recommends this multidisciplinary meeting format. This symposium and its faculty specifically address the clinical guidelines set forth in the National Comprehensive Cancer Network.

Target Audience

This course is designed for national physicians specializing in medical, surgical and radiation oncology as well as nurses, pharmacists and other allied health professionals who work with cancer patients.

It is a pleasure for us to invite you to the Multidisciplinary Management of Cancers meeting to be held March 18-20, 2016. The 2016 program will represent a collaborative effort of expert clinicians from Stanford Cancer Institute, University of California, Davis, and University of California, San Francisco, with sponsorship from the Association of Northern California Oncologists.

Based on the recurrent enthusiasm for a case oriented approach we once again will be tackling some of the toughest cases, heavily relying upon audience participation and feedback. Community oncologists will be represented on the panels as well. With that in mind, we remind you that we look forward to your submission of real cases to discuss. Using our online case submission form, please submit cases for us by the end of December 2015. We will select cases from among those submitted for presentation.

Our primary goal of this meeting, as always, is to provide learners with the latest new developments in multidisciplinary management of cancers. And while this year’s format will be similar to the format of prior programs at Silverado and Stanford, we also expect to add at least one new panel, focusing on developmental therapeutics.
