Stanford Medicine 25 Symposium set for Aug. 27-28

The two-day event is designed to help early and mid-career physicians who teach clinical skills become better teachers of bedside medicine.

Registration is open for the Stanford 25 Skills Symposium 2016.

The two-day event, scheduled for Aug. 27-28, is designed for early and mid-career physicians who teach clinical skills. It will take place at the Li Ka Shing Center for Learning and Knowledge.

The interactive curriculum aims to help participants become more effective at teaching bedside medicine and to provide a community of like-minded practitioners.

Mornings will be spent in plenary sessions and afternoons will have five tracks from which to choose: bedside ultrasound, Stanford Medicine 25, outpatient, 5-minute bedside moment and clinical skills assessment.

Attendance is limited to ensure adequate opportunities for learning and practicing are available for each participant.

Instructors

Abraham Verghese, MD, MACP

Abraham Verghese, MD, MACP, is Professor and Linda R. Meier and Joan F. Lane Provostial Professor, and Vice Chair for the Theory and Practice of Medicine at the School of Medicine at Stanford University. He is also a critically acclaimed, best-selling author and a physician with an international reputation for his focus on healing in an era where technology often overwhelms the human side of medicine.  

Errol Ozdalga, MD


Errol Ozdalga, MD, is a Stanford Internal Medicine Assistant Professor of Medicine. He is the Director of the Stanford Medicine 25 and oversees Stanford Medicine 25's online presence and the regular Stanford 25 sessions of Stanford residents. He is also a hospitalist, Director of Communications for the Department of Medicine, and helps run the 3rd year medical student internal medicine clerkship.  

Maja Artandi, MD

Maja Artanti, MD is a Clinical Assistant Professor and primary care doctor at Stanford. She is involved in resident education in the clinic and a member of the Stanford 25 team that is focused on content creation, video direction, and Stanford 25 conferences.  

John Kugler, MD

John Kugler, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Stanford. His is the Internal Medicine Student Clerkship/Sub-internship Co-Director and  runs the ultrasound course for Stanford residents. His reserach is focused on the bedside exam and the use of technology in medical education.

Andrew Elder, MD

Andrew Elder, MD, recieved his BSc from Edinburgh University in 1979 and his MBchB in 1982. He was first appointed as an NHS consultant in 1993, and he is currently Consultant Physician in Acute Medicine for Older People at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh and an Honorary Professor at Edinburgh Medical School.

Junaid Zaman, MD

Junaid Zaman, MD,  is a graduate of the University of Oxford and a Fulbright Scholar. He is currently at Stanford working towards his PhD and researching heart rhythm disorders. He supports the Stanford Medicine 25 program in myriad ways -- by creating content for the blog, and helping with the Sklls Symposium.
