MIPS Molecular Imaging Program at Stanford

Small Animal Imaging Facility
Stanford Center for Innovation in In-Vivo Imaging (SCI3)

Clark Center at Night

The mission of the Stanford Center for Innovation in In-Vivo Imaging (SCI3) is the application and advancement of technologies for in-vivo biological assessment and imaging in animal models. The instrumentation will support the development of reagents and approaches that will reveal in-vivo changes at the molecular and cellular level such that a greater understanding can be gained in animal models.

In this manner the power of repeated measures can be applied to these models enriching the data sets and improving the statistics. This core will provide a test bed for evaluating human imaging reagents and strategies.

The flexibility and rapid analyses of the animal models will greatly accelerate the development of these molecular imaging strategies as well as novel therapeutic strategies for a variety of diseases. The Clark Building houses the SCI3 core resources and instrumentation.

The Small Animal Imaging Core Facility is partially supported by funds from the Stanford Digestive Disease Core, the Stanford Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Stanford ICMIC, and is operated by the Departments of Pediatrics (Neonatology) and Radiology.

SCI3 Directors

SCI3 Research Staff

Tim Doyle, PhD

Tim Doyle, Ph.D.

Dr. Doyle provides training on the IVIS Imaging Systems (both bioluminescence and fluorescence imaging), MicroCT scanners, MicroSPECT scanners, and the Vevo Ultrasound, and provides regular training sessions on these systems. He can also show users how to use the Leica (Mauna Kea) Cellvizio microscope, cryomicrotome and cryomacrotome systems.

Laura Jean Pisani, PhD

Laura Jean Pisani, Ph.D.

Dr Pisani manages the 7T MRI system, providing training and assistance for all users on this system - please coordinate directly with her to arrange for this. She also provides training on the use of radionuclides in the imaging facility, as well as training on the MicroPET systems. Finally, Dr Pisani provides training on the ART Optix and CRI Maestro fluorescence imaging systems.

Frezghi Habte, PhD

Frezghi Habte, Ph.D.

Dr Habte provides image quantification assistance to all users of the imaging facility. He runs regular software training classes focusing on different software applications used within the facility, as well as providing assistance with specific problems as required.

Inveon D-PET (formerly R4)

Laura Jean Pisani - will be holding an Inveon D-PET On-The-Job training on July 28, 2015. Training will be in the imaging lab on the Inveon D-PET at 9:30am, and lasts about 1.5hr.

Please let her know if you are interested in attending. If so, please email [lpisani] documentation of your Completion of Radiation Safety Training from EH&S. Please wear your dosimeters, closed_toe shoes, and pants to protect your legs (even if you will be in costume).

If you have not yet completed your Radiation Safety Training with EH&S and would like to handle isotopes in the imaging lab, request to schedule with:
