Research Agenda Workshop

The workshop aims to help postdoctoral scholars identify and consider the key questions in order to successfully develop an independent research agenda.  The workshop focuses on the process of selecting topics and directions for future research, and on the clear articulation of their ideas for an audience of non-specialists.  The workshop includes two sessions, of approximately two-hours each. Attendance of both sessions is required. 

By the end of this workshop, participants will:

• Identify a focus for their future research as independent scientists
• Draft a one-page statement of their individual research agenda       
• Receive and give feedback on their research ideas     

Participation is limited 15 postdocs due to the hands-on nature of the workshop. Preference will be given to postdocs who are planning their transition to independence, e.g., applying to faculty positions, in the coming year.   

About the Instructor:  Margo Horn received an MA and PhD in History from Tufts University.  She is a US social historian, specializing in the history of medicine.  She has taught at Stanford since 1985.  Currently, she teaches courses on the history of medicine in the United States including the History of Women and Medicine in the US,  The Social History of Mental Illness, and In Sickness and in Health: Medicine and US Society, 1825-2012.  Margo Horn is the author of Before It's Too Late: The Child Guidance Movement in the United States, 1922-1945.
