Summer for Commuting Students

Summer Session welcomes all students to Stanford — whether they live in an on-campus residence, or commute from a neighboring community. Opportunities present themselves at every turn, inviting you to make the most of your summer experience.

Speakers

Hear from world-renowned speakers about topics that range from human rights to Stanford’s innovative Computer Science major. Past speakers have included Nobel Laureates, technology gurus, and renowned activists.

Visit the events page on our blog, or check the current speaker and programming calendar to see who’s scheduled this summer.

Trips

Watch for opportunities to participate in planned, weekly outings that encourage students to explore their environs and learn more about the greater San Francisco Bay Area. Even if you grew up down the street from campus, you’ll appreciate a chance to share the thrill of discovery with your new friends from around the world.

Each week, students will receive an email from Summer staff about how to sign up for trips. If you are not receiving those emails, please notify the Summer Session office.

Resources and Facilities

As a Stanford Summer student, you’ll have access to our incredible athletic facilities and academic resources, including the Stanford golf course, the Cecil H. Green Library, and the Cantor Arts Center. All libraries have computing clusters where you can work collaboratively on projects, print, or use specialized software. Feel free to stop by the Summer Session Office any time throughout the summer if you have questions.

Getting Around

Commuting students are encouraged to look into public transportation options when planning their summer schedules. Students who bring a car to campus will need to purchase a parking permit in advance. Visit Stanford’s Parking & Transportation Services website for more information.
