This course will provide students with a basic overview of social psychology. We will cover the history of the field, review major findings, and highlight areas of current research. The course will focus on classic studies that have profoundly changed our understanding of human nature and social interaction. Some of the topics covered in this class will include: individuals and groups, conformity and obedience, physical attraction, morality, race and intergroup relations, persuasion, and judgment and decision-making. When possible, we will focus on research that has real-world implications in order to demonstrate to students that social psychology is not only an academic subject but is also a tool for solving important social issues. The course, overall, will attempt to educate students about social interaction and about themselves in a fun, supportive and intellectually stimulating environment.
