This course begins by discussing the concept and treatment of mental disorders throughout history as well as currently used assessment tools and research methods. It then surveys the psychopathology of mental disorders currently included in DSM-V, including mood, anxiety, eating, psychotic, developmental, and neurocognitive disorders. Finally, it examines perennial issues in abnormal psychology, such as the classification and comorbidity of mental disorders, the influence of society and the media on popular perceptions, and major legal and ethical considerations.
