Love, intrigue, and comedy are in the air in London in 1515! Sweet Phoebe Meryll loves Colonel Fairfax; Fairfax is utterly oblivious. Assistant Tormentor & Chief Jailer of the Tower of London, Wilfred, loves Phoebe; Phoebe finds him oafish and abhorrent. Jack the jester loves Elsie, the dancing girl; Elsie sees him more like a brother and colleague. Meanwhile, the Yeomen of the Guard love their peaceful job guarding the Tower of London...until their routine takes a topsy-turvy turn when a mysterious new soldier joins their regiment. With Colonel Fairfax accused of sorcery and sentenced to meet his doom at the headsman’s block, to whom will he turn for solace, a reprieve, or … short-lived matrimonial bliss? A rollicking musical tale of deception, devotion, duty, and (dare we say?) death, The Yeomen of the Guard is a show not to be missed!
Stanford Students!
Get involved in live theatre on campus! Enjoy the witty, clever lyrics and music of the classically hilarious and eternally popular Gilbert & Sullivan. (Don't know Gilbert & Sullivan? Trust us, they're worth googling.) If you think the mirth is limited to onstage shenanigans, wait until you experience our backstage antics and parties. Since we produce two shows per year, there are plenty of acting and staff opportunities in all departments. We're one of three G&S light opera troupes in the Bay Area and known for being a "learning while doing" theatre troupe. The Savoyards have been an operettic training ground for over 40 years and have successfully trained many amateurs who've gone on to fulfill their musical theatre dreams. In recent years, we have become known for our fresh, innovative stagings of traditional G&S works. (After all, we can't let the Gilbert & Sullivan societies at Harvard, MIT, Yale, Brown, University of Michigan, and Rice have all of the fun!)
