Upgrade or replace locomotives with funding from the Carl Moyer Program. This program aims to cut air pollution from heavy-duty diesel engines in California.
Project Types
Funding is offered on a first-come, first-served basis until all funds have been spent. Applications must be complete to be considered for funding.
Funds are available for the following project types:
- Locomotive replacement - replace an old locomotive with the cleanest available locomotive.
- Engine replacement (repower) - replace an old engine with a new, emission-certified engine.
- Engine retrofit - install an emission control or idle-limiting device.
- Remanufacture kit - install an engine remanufacture kit that reduces engine emissions.
- Head end power unit replacement - replace the locomotive head end power unit with the cleanest available engine.
Eligibility
The following locomotives are eligible for funding:
- Class 3, military, industrial, and passenger locomotives.
- Class 1 locomotives (limited funding available).
- Locomotives operating within the Air District’s boundaries, with priority given to those operating in areas highlighted in the Priority Community Map(919 k PDF, 1 pg) (PDF).
