Berkeley Emergency Notification System

The Berkeley Emergency Notification System (BENS) is one of the tools that the City of Berkeley uses to communicate emergency information and instructions to the Berkeley community in the event of a threat to their life, health and/or safety.

  BENS can send:

  • Voice alerts to phones
  • SMS text messages
  • Email
  • TTY/TDD messages

The City of Berkeley encourages residents and visitors to sign up for BENS. BENS is one of many emergency notification tools available to the Berkeley community. Community members should not rely exclusively on BENS for emergency information. Visit the Emergency Alerting page to learn more about additional systems in Berkeley, Alameda County and California, which may be used to share emergency information and instructions.
