Welcome to the website of Councilmember Linda Maio, Vice Mayor of the City of Berkeley, who represents City Council District 1 in the City of Berkeley, CA.
Friendly, tree-lined streets characterize this part of Berkeley, with small neighborhood shops along Gilman, the enormously popular 4th Street shopping area and West Berkeley Historic District, several major parks (Ohlone, Cedar/Rose, James Kenney), our new sports fields near the Gilman interchange, the Berkeley Adult School, and the West Berkeley International Marketplace. Our West Berkeley library is a hub for many families, children, seniors. District 1 is best described as the northwest quadrant of Berkeley's flatlands. We encompass Berkeley's dramatic waterfront to the west and the district runs to the Albany line or Cordonices creek to the north. The south border is University Avenue and the east border stretches along the mid-line of Grant Street but gets a little squiggly as it veers west at Rose.
